Your Guide to Your January Home Improvement Projects

A planner for the month of January

As the ball drops at midnight on January 1, we’ve often got a mile-long list of resolutions to be better versions of ourselves in the new year. “New year, new you” is a phrase we often hear at this time of year. You may have personal goals you want to work on in 2025, but what about your home?

A new year is a great time to take a look at the home renovation projects you want to complete, whether small or large. Whether you want to redo your whole kitchen or change some trim, Hunter Handyman Services is here for you.

In addition, here is your January home improvement guide with proejcts to tackle while you wait for the warmer weather:

-Silence those floor squeaks: Got a squeaky floor? What better time than the gloomy days of January to take care of those squeaky spots? As you walk around your home, mark the squeaky spots with a pencil and get ready for quieter floors.

-Deep clean or change your flooring: Decided you didn’t like your floor after you silenced all those squeaks? Maybe your flooring didn’t hold up to the holiday traffic and needs a deep cleaning? Changing the flooring in a room can give it an updated look without spending a whole lot. You can also change or add area rugs to give the room a different feel.

-Painting: Speaking of updating the look of a room, paint is always a great option to change the look and feel of a room without breaking the bank. The new look will also go a long way toward brightening up those gray winter days.

-Change out your cabinets: Wanting a kitchen, bathroom, or laundry room upgrade? Changing (or painting) the cabinets can also help you get a new look without a full renovation.

-Upgrade your lighting: Changing your light fixtures can make a big statement and is an easy way to update your home during  the winter months.

-Refresh caulking: When was the last time you checked out the caulking in your bathroom? Maybe it’s time to give it a refresh to make sure everything stays looking at working at its best!

-Change out door knobs or drawer pulls: Looking to make a smaller change? Switching your door knob, door handles, or drawer pulls can add an updated look without much effort. Changing or painting your trim can also change out your room’s look without breaking the bank.

-Upgrade your garage: Those gloomy January days are a good time to clean out the garage, make sure you have adequate storing and shelving, and add any extra items you need to make the space workable come springtime.

-Clean out your sink traps and the cabinets under your sinks: When was the last time you cleaned your sink trap? Cleaned the area under the sink? If you can’t remember, maybe it’s time!
